The Manor Woods PTO offers a variety of ways for every parent to be involved!

JOIN A BI-MONTHLY MEETING

Our PTO meets every other month, starting September 15th, and we’d love to see you there. Meetings are a friendly, open space to connect with fellow parents, dedicated staff, and our incredibly supportive administration team. They join us often to listen, share updates, and keep the conversation between home and school strong.

Each meeting includes updates from committees and administration, plus an open forum so every voice can be heard. Whether you have ideas to share, questions to ask, or just want to listen in, your presence matters.

We know everyone’s schedules are different, so we vary the days and times to give more people a chance to join. Children are welcome, so no need to worry about finding childcare. Come once, come often—either way, you’ll leave knowing more, feeling more connected, and knowing your time was well spent.

PARTICIPATE IN ANY OF OUR 8 COMMITTEES

Community Connection:

Love being in the know and helping others stay informed? Help share important updates and highlights on our PTO website, social media and school lobby bulletin board. No advanced tech skills needed - just a bit of creativity and a knack for organizing details! This is a very flexible role that helps our whole school feel more connected.

DEI:

The PTO is proud to celebrate our school’s diverse community! Join the DEI committee to work closely with school staff in planning events and in-school assemblies that help our students explore and celebrate different cultures. This is a great fit for anyone who wants to make a big impact through a few key projects during the school year.

Staff Appreciation:

Our teachers and staff do so much for our children - join this committee to make sure they feel the love! From occasional meals and treats, to coordinating holiday gifts and planning a full week of fun for Teacher Appreciation Week in May, this team is all about gratitude!

Fundraising:

Help power all the amazing programs and events our PTO supports! The Fundraising Committee organizes the Duck Dash Fun Run (our main fundraiser in the fall), along with a few smaller events throughout the year. Most of the commitment happens early in the school year around the October Duck Dash. Great for those who enjoy organizing, motivating, and seeing direct impact.

Social Events:

Love planning fun and meaningful moments? The Social Events Committee helps plan a number of engaging experiences to foster connection, belonging, and joy in our Manor Woods community throughout the year. This team mainly meets in-person during school hours, and additional volunteers are always needed for every after-school event, so there are multiple ways to get involved.

Spirit Wear:

Who doesn’t love school pride and a good hoodie? The Spirit Wear Committee designs and promotes new school gear each year, supporting both community spirit and PTO fundraising! Most of the work happens at the start of the school year, with some follow-up as needed. A fun, creative, and flexible way to volunteer!

Yearbook:

Help capture the memories of the year! The Yearbook Committee organizes photos and layout for the Manor Woods Yearbook and always welcomes extra photos from events and classrooms. You can join the committee or simply contribute pictures to: manorwoodsyearbook@gmail.com. Great for anyone with a love of photos, design, or storytelling.

School System Advocacy:

Want to help our PTO stay informed and connected with the bigger picture? This role is perfect for those who are passionate about advocating for our school beyond the classroom. Attend public meetings (like Howard County Board of Education and PTACHC sessions) to stay updated on countywide decisions that impact our community such as budget changes, staffing cuts, redistricting, and new housing developments. You’ll share relevant news and action opportunities with our PTO board and families, helping us stay proactive and engaged.

SERVE ON OUR EXECUTIVE BOARD

If you’re looking for a meaningful way to make an impact, consider joining our PTO Executive Board. Elections are held each April for the following school year, and most positions are a two-year term. We announce upcoming openings at our bi-monthly meetings and share details in our email newsletters, so you’ll always know what’s available.

You don’t need prior PTO or leadership experience - just an interest in helping our school thrive. Serving on the board is a great way to build connections, share your skills, and have a direct hand in shaping PTO programs and priorities.

Curious about what’s involved? Reach out to any existing board member for a friendly conversation - we’re happy to answer questions and help you find a role that fits your time and interests.

JUST VOLUNTEER!

If a defined role doesn't suit you this year, there are still so many opportunities to be a critical part of the PTO: whether it’s lending a hand at a big event, helping with a one-time project, or jumping in when something unexpected comes up, any amount of time and energy make a real difference.

We share volunteer opportunities at meetings and through our email newsletter so you can choose what works for your schedule. Make sure you’re registered as a PTO member so you’ll be in the loop when opportunities pop up. We’d love to have you involved - whenever and however you can.
